The key to living with Parkinson’s is learning to live in the NOW. There is no point in worrying about the future, ruminating over how bad it could get. It may never come to that and, if it does, you will have plenty of years to adjust. Why disable yourself by fixating on what may be in store for you. Love every moment. Be present.
You can’t defeat Parkinson’s so you must redefine winning. Slowing the disease’s progression everyday is victory. Establish a daily routine and stick with it doggedly. That means eating well, taking your medication at the same time, exercise, good sleep habits. Did I mention exercise? Living a smart and disciplined life is a thumb in Parkinson’s eye.
Be as social as you can manage. Parkinson’s can be a lonely endeavor. Company is a great elixir and will increase your potential to maintain your voice. Arrange for friends to visit for lunch, get involved in support groups, go to the gym or church.
Don’t spend a minute worrying how you appear to others. Worry only about your caregiver. That person is your guardian angel.
